Once you create your blogspot, you will be posting a blog with each section we read, as well as responding to three other people's blogs.
The blogs you post should focus on your response to the literature and should NOT merely be a plot summary! Include comments about your thoughts and feelings while reading, any questions you have, and predictions for the next chapter. Think about how Wiesel creates the mood of his story and consider other literary terms we study.
Your original blog needs to be a complete paragraph of at least six sentences. This is an English assignment, so no abbreviations or text language (write "because" not "cuz" or "b/c"). Your responses need to be at least three sentences. You are not simply saying "Good job on your blog," but commenting on what the person wrote, agreeing or disagreeing, and adding to what he or she said. Be sure you are responding to different people. Every person should have at least two responses before you respond a third time on a blog.
Some ideas for writing:
- Check your understanding: Explain how the story is making sense to you and be sure to include examples. Discuss the setting, mood, point of view, and character relationships. Address stated themes.
- Make inferences: Explain your thoughts about the feelings and motives of the characters and discuss implied themes.
- Ask questions: Ask questions about scenes or events that are confusing and discuss possible answers.
- Give your opinion: Discuss the author's style, use of language, and use of literary devices. Tell why you do or do not like the story. Tell how you feel while reading the chapters. Compare the book with others you have read.
- Make connections: Think about ways the characters and events relate to your own life and experiences. Put yourself in the character's place and discuss how you would think or feel in that situation. Try this from the point of view of different characters.
- Make recommendations: Tell what you think the characters should say or do. Explain how you would tell the story or what you think should happen.
